Career Opportunities

At Southfield and Norwood

At Southfield House, we are acutely aware of the importance of familiarity and continuity in care and so we never employ ‘agency’ staff. All our staff work as a team and are employed directly.

A number of our staff have been with us for many years but we do periodically have vacancies, created through natural progression or expansion.

There are three main job roles: care assistants, who must be qualified to NVQ2 or above, to help provide either day care or wakeful night duty cover and catering staff.

Day Care Assistants

The day care role involves meeting the personal care needs of residents, respecting their dignity and promoting independence; helping in the care of their physical environment and in the general day-to-day activities of the home. Care assistants must be able to take delegated responsibilities in the charge of the care users under their care, to the appropriate level, and to assist a senior member of staff who has been assessed as competent with medication administration.

Night Care Assistants

The responsibilities of night time carers include carrying out regular checks around the home and its buildings, with due regard to residents’ privacy; answering emergency bells; assisting residents preparing for bed or waking and providing help, reassurance and comfort where needed. Night time carers must have the confidence and experience to be appointed ‘person in charge’ in the absence of senior staff, which will include giving medication.

Each role includes some domestic duties, which involve laundry, ironing or cleaning as required. The assistants are also required to read and write reports in case notes and to take part in staff meetings and training, as directed.

Trainee opportunities

We are committed to helping develop young local talent, offering the opportunity for ambitious youngsters to get a first rung on the ladder to a career in care. If you have the enthusiasm to learn while working alongside experienced professionals, whether as a trainee carer or in catering, contact us as we may well have an opening for you.

Catering Team

Our catering team includes a number of professionals who support the Head Chef in meeting the varied nutritional requirements of our residents, providing a variety of tasty meals that are well presented and to the highest standards.

The role involves the preparation and serving of meals, including breakfast, and assisting in the effective operation of the kitchen, ensuring that all food is used within the prescribed period, with particular attention to perishable goods. Candidates must have fresh food experience and hold a suitable food and hygiene certificate.
